From July 1 to August 1, 2014, 582 samples of food, plant and animal raw materials and animal feed were submitted to the Testing Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate Federal Centre for Animal Health.

Post-graduate center of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” started entrance examinations which will last until August 20, 2014.

This year 5 applications were submitted for the full-time post graduate study. In view of new RF Education Law enforcement, since this year post-graduate studies have become the third level of higher education. Magisters and Specialists are allowed for entrance to the post-graduate center.

In July 2014 the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” received the official confirmation of its listing in the institutional Testing Center (TC) in the National section of the Unified Register of Certification Authorities and Testing Laboratories (Centers) of the Customs Union.

According to the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) 428 highly dangerous animal diseases were reported all over the world in July 2014.

In Russia new African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks were reported in the following regions: Pskov Oblast – 8, Kaluga Oblast – 6, Smolensk Oblast – 4, Novgorod and Voronezh Oblasts – 2, Tula Oblast – 1. Twenty-four ASF outbreaks were reported in Latvia, 6 – in Poland, 1 – in Lithuania.

Alexey Mischenko, Deputy Head on Research and Monitoring of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” acted as an FMD expert during the webinar “FMD Vaccine Selection” organized on August 4, 2014 by FAO/EuFMD (The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations/ European Commission for the Control of Foot-and- Mouth Disease) for the participants of Roadmap for FMD Control in Western Eurasia.

Based on the OIE data 36 outbreaks of highly dangerous animal diseases were registered in the world from 5 to 11 of July, 2014.

Nine outbreaks of African swine fever were registered in Russia. Latvia officially confirmed four ASF outbreaks and two CSF outbreaks. A CSF outbreak was also registered in Mongolia.

Due to development of duck production in Russia it has become necessary to control duck diseases such as duck virus hepatitis (DVH) which is the most economically important disease.

DVH is a highly contagious disease characterized by liver lesions and high lethality of ducklings. DHAV-1 is the most widely distributed and important serotype for disease diagnostics and prevention.

According to the World Animal Health Organization 106 outbreaks of highly dangerous animal diseases were reported in the world during the period from July 12 to July 18, 2014.

African swine fever outbreaks were reported in Russia (3 outbreaks), Latvia (8 outbreaks) and Poland (4 outbreaks).

In June 2014, members of the Reference laboratory for cattle diseases of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” recieved positive results in interlaboratory comparisons (IC) organized by GD Animal Health. Participation in the IC made it possible to test performance of test kits and validate analytical methods.

Testing procedure included two stages:

1.      detection of paratuberculosis antibodies in milk and/or blood sera;

During the period from June 30 to July 9, 2014 and according to the Program of Epidemic Surveillance of the Kyrgyz Republic implemented prior to its accession to the Customs Union and Common Economic Space Alexey Borisov and Svetlana Kremenchugskaya, officers of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health”, participated in veterinary inspection mission of areas bordering the Republic of Kazakhstan (Chuyskaya, Issyk-Kulskaya and Talasskaya Oblasts).

Reference laboratory for avian diseases of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” once again participated in the international comparisons (IC) organized by the Dutch Animal Health Service, Deventer (R&D GD), Netherlands.

The Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” carries out epidemic monitoring in the Crimea. During the period from June 20 to July 4, 2014, a number of serological and bacteriological tests were performed in the FGBI “ARRIAH” Affiliate in the Republic of Crimea.

According to the information of the World Organisation for Animal Health 1,715 outbreaks of highly dangerous animal diseases were registered worldwide in the first half of the year 2014.

Outbreaks of African swine fever were reported from Russia (25), Poland (4), Latvia (3), Lithuania (2) and Ukraine (2). Cases of classical swine fever were officially confirmed in Russia (3), Latvia (27) and Columbia (10).

According to information of the World Organisation for Animal Health 130 outbreaks of animal highly dangerous diseases were registered in June 2014 in previously disease-affected countries and 64 outbreaks were reported from previously disease-free states.

The FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” under the jurisdiction of the Rosselkhoznadzor received a patent of the Russian Federation No.2515058 for the invention “Associated emulsion inactivated vaccine against viral diarrhea, bovine rotavirus and coronavirus infections”.

The invention relates to the sphere of veterinary virology and biotechnology and deals with the production and use of the vaccine for protection against pneumoenteritis of cattle and newborn calves.
