The on-site assessment of laboratories for their compliance with accreditation criteria (the extension of the scope of accreditation) took place in the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “ARRIAH” Branch in the Republic of Crimea. The assessment experts made the official conclusion on the compliance of the Crimean Branch laboratories with the accreditation criteria approved by Order of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade No.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza is a highly contagious acute highly dangerous quarantine disease which can kill up to 100% of the flock. HPAI as well as Newcastle disease has a huge economic impact on the economic potential of many countries and hinder the development of poultry industry. In spite of the fact that the main means for AI control is radical measures, vaccination of free range poultry is an active tool for the disease control.

The Regional Seminar of the OIE National Focal Points for Veterinary Laboratories started its work in Kranj, Slovenia on June 27, 2017. Ekaterina Gurnova, Chief specialist-expert of the Rosselkhoznadzor Laboratory Control Unit came in the capacity of the RF National Focal Point.

LPAI H9N2 virus is widely spread in the Far and Near East. The agent can cause clinical disease and results in grave economic losses due to increased levels of culling, mortality and loss of production capacities of both layers and meat cross-breeds especially in commercial poultry. Over the recent decade H9N2 virus has been widely spread. The infection causes severe damage to the poultry industry.

Inspection for competence verification and the extension of its scope was carried out at the Testing Centre of the FGBI “ARRIAH” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor on March 27-30, 2017 in compliance with the Rosaccreditation Order.

The inspection results showed that the Testing Centre complied with the accreditation criteria approved by Order of the Ministry of Economic Development No. 326 of 30.05.2014 and requirements of GOST ISO/IEC 17025-2009.

On May 17, 2017, the opening ceremony of 12th International Forum and Exhibition of Livestock, Dairy and Fisheries Industry Indo Livestock 2017 was held in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The exhibition and forum are supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia. More than 350 exhibitors from 33 countries and more than 15 000 visitors and delegates take part in the exhibition.

In the first quarter of 2017 in the framework of the official program 80 animal brain samples received from the Vladimir (3 samples) and Tver (77 samples) Oblasts were tested for rabies by the FGBI “ARRIAH” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor.

At the FGBI “ARRIAH” the materials were tested using IFA. Test results revealed 8 new rabies cases in wild animals: 7 cases in the Tver Oblast (Bezhetsky, Kalyazinsky, Konakovsky, Nelidovsky Raions) and 1 case in the Petushinsky Raion, Vladimir Oblast.

The 7th International Veterinary Congress takes place on April 19 - 21, 2017 in Ufa. It is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and by the Russian Veterinary Association. High status of the Congress is related to high professional level of the invited domestic and foreign speakers – leading world experts in their profession. Traditionally the Congress is attended by specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate Federal Centre for Animal Health.

In March 2017 OOO “Vladimir Test”, an authorized body for integrated management system certification, inspected the quality system operating at the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” and its branch in the Republic of Crimea subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor for its compliance with GOST P ISO 9001-2015 (ISO 9001:2015) in order to confirm that the quality assurance activities performed by the institution comply with the requirements of the abovementioned standard.

The Meeting of the Concluding Collegium of the Rosselkhoznadzor under the chairmanship of Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, took place at the FGBI “All-Russian Plant Quarantine Centre” on March 31, 2017. Results of the activities performed by the Service and its subordinate institutions in 2016 as well as the objectives for 2017 were discussed during the meeting.

1079 highly dangerous disease outbreaks were reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) during the period of 1-31 March, 2017.

Russia reported of the African swine fever outbreaks among livestock animals in Samara Oblast (1 outbreak) and Irkutsk Oblast (1 outbreak) (these are the first ASF cases detected in these territories), among wild boars – in Vladimir Oblast (1 outbreak) and Moscow Oblast (1 outbreak). Highly pathogenic avian influenza was reported in Moscow Oblast (8 outbreaks).
