PROTEOMIC PROPERTIES OF SALMONELLA ISOLATES

The paper presents results of Salmonella of studying Salmonella isolate properties by MALDI-TOF method using MALDI Autoflex III mass-spectrometer. Microorganism identification was performed using direct loading method followed by comparison of mass spectra with the database set in the apparatus. Peaks typical of many Enterobacteriaceae representatives and mass to charge ratio (m/z), characterizing Salmonella were determined.

COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF MEADIA USED FOR DETECTION

OF SALMONELLA SPP.

The paper demonstrates evaluation results for productive and selective capacities of domestic and imported chromogenic nutrient media (Bismuth sulphite agar and xylose lysine deoxycholate agar (XLD agar)). The productivity ratio of imported and domestic XLD agar amounted to over 0.58 and selectivity ratio – to less than 2 lg. The productivity ratio of imported Bismuth sulfate agar was higher than the productivity of the domestic one and amounted to over 0.19. The selective properties of the both media are similar and amount to 5 lg. Based on the evidence found, imported Bismuth sulfate agar and domestic or imported XLD agar can be recommended for use in the experiments for detection of Salmonella spp in food products.

ASSESSING APPLICABILITY OF ISOTOPE-RATIO MASS SPECTROMETRY (IRMS) FOR GEOGRAPHICAL IDENTIFICATION OF WHOLE MILK

Applicability of isotope–ratio mass spectrometry of light elements (C, N, O, H) has been assessed for identification of geographical origin of Russian milk collected in different parts of the Russian Federation (235 sample of whole milk). Quantitative assessment was carried out in a series of statistical tests based on nonparametric dispersion analysis.

BIOLOGICAL SECURITY OF PIG FARMS

The paper describes aspects of biological security in pig farming in conditions of worsening of epizootic situation associated with swine viral diseases and African swine fever (ASF) occurrence, as well as the history of ASF occurrence and spread over the RF territory, emergency and control measures against swine infectious diseases, which are developed and implemented by the Rosselkhoznadzor and Veterinary Department of the RF Ministry of Agriculture. Efficiency assessment of measures and evaluation of current situation in the field of pig farming was performed.

IDENTIFICATION OF HAEMOPHILUS PARASUIS USING MALDI-TOF MASS SPECTROMETRY

The paper covers results of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry used to rapidly identify Haemophilus parasuis field isolates. ClinPro Tools software showed 15 peaks in the protein spectrum with 100% identification capability differentiating 6 Pasteurellaceae species. Peak corresponding to mass of 8407.92 Da (p<0.05) is unique for Haemophilus parasuis. The updated database was successfully used for identification of 8 Haemophilus parasuis isolates. No false-positive results were obtained when the method specificity was tested using 9 bacterial species of Pasteurellaceae family.

The paper considers natural historical aspects of emerging highly dangerous coronavirus infections found in a Chirocoptera reservoir, of serious acute respiratory syndrome (“atypical pneumonia”) and Middle East respiratory syndrome, their origin and spread.
